When it comes to moving, there are a lot of things to do and a lot of things to remember.
Even if the move is just down the street or to another town, it can be difficult to recall everything that needs to be done.
So to ensure that you make a clean break and move to your new home without forgetting a thing, here is a moving checklist to help keep you on track and efficient.
Change Your Address Often we forget to change our address until well after the move has been completed.
Before moving, fill out a change of address form with the local Post Office or even file the form online (for a small fee) to ensure that your mail goes to the right location and nothing is left behind.
Also notify your credit card companies and other mailed bills directly, rather than having the mail forwarded by the Post Office.
Financial Institution If you are dealing with a local banking branch, then you will want to go to your current branch and request that your account information be transferred the branch closest to your new location.
Organization Notification If you are a member of organizations such as churches, children's groups, etc, you will want to notify them of your move.
See if there is another chapter closer to your new home or if you will be close enough to still attend these organizations.
School Records and Medical Records This is a step that many of us tend to forget.
If you have children, they will obviously have to attend a new school from the move.
Ensure that their school records from their current school are transferred to the new one prior to the move.
You will also want to have any medical records from hospitals and physicians transferred to your new physician at your next location.
Valuables Now is the time to decide if your valuables will be going with the movers or if they will be going directly with you.
Highly valuable jewelry and other collectibles are fragile; therefore you should consider packing them and carrying them along with your belongings in the car, rather than sending them along with the movers.
