How to Replace Your Turn Signal Relay in a VW Jetta

    • 1). Spray a small amount of lubricating oil onto the switch for the turn signal. This is located on the steering column. When the switch contacts become corroded or dirty, a good connection is not achieved and so the performance becomes sporadic or just doesn't work at all.

    • 2). Look on the dash for the hazard switch. On the Jetta, the turn signal and hazard flasher relay is part of the hazard switch. You must replace the whole unit if part of it fails. Obtain this flasher and relay from your local VW dealer or most auto parts stores.

    • 3). Remove the hazard flasher switch from the dashboard by pulling it straight out and removing it. Obtain a replacement switch for your exact year and model from a parts dealer or service center. Reinsert the new switch into the dash and press down to seat the switch. Start the Jetta and test to make sure both turn signals work and that the hazard lights work correctly.
