Automobile Rust Removal

    Surface Rust

    • Surface or superficial rust is usually easy to clean because it is in small areas. Scrub off the rust with a scrubbing pad, steel wool pad or wire brush. This is the first step in rust removal.

    Rust Removers

    • For difficult rust on an automobile, rust removers or naval jelly are the answer. These substances have acids in them that dissolve or break down the rust. Because of the high acid content, rust removers or naval jelly are extremely effective in getting rid of rust.

    Rust-Proof Primer

    • Car manufacturers cover all cars with a rust-proof coating that inhibits rust formation. But this thin layer wears off after time. Replacing the protective coating with automotive primer is an easy way to prevent rust from forming. Hardware stores or automotive shops sell primers made for use on automobiles.
