These fingerless gloves are about as easy as a knitting project gets. They're just a knit triangle that's sewn up, leaving a hole for the thumb to go through.

To make the project a little more interesting and completely gift-worthy, add a bit of sparkle with some beads stitched on after the knitting is done. Cute, easy and fun!

Materials:

• about 100 yards medium weight wool or wool blend yarn (I used Elsebeth Lavold Classic AL, a baby alpaca/merino wool blend in black)

• size 7 US (4.5 mm) knitting needles
• scissors and yarn needle
• small beads in a contrasting color
• sewing needle and thread to match the yarn color

Gauge:

18 stitches and 25 rows per 4 inches in Stockinette Stitch in the round (4.5 stitches and 6.25 rows per inch).

Size:

Finished fingerless glove is about 7 inches around and 7.5 inches tall, unstretched. To fit a woman.

Instructions:

1. Cast on 32 stitches.
2. Work in knit 1, purl 1 ribbing for 4 rows.
3. Work in Stockinette Stitch until piece measures 7 inches, or length of your choice.
4. Work 4 rows of knit 1, purl 1 ribbing.
5. Bind off in pattern.

Make a second mitt the same way. Use mattress stitch to sew the side seam together, leaving a gap starting a couple of rows beneath the ribbing for the thumb.

Decide which mitt is for which hand and, using coordinating sewing thread and contrasting beads, stitch on a pattern of your choosing. I did three rows of staggered beads at the top and bottom of each mitt, but you can do whatever you like.
