How to Replace the Thermostat in a Maytag Oven

    • 1). Pull out the bottom utility drawer and set it out of the way. Reach inside the drawer cavity and unplug the Maytag oven power cord from the electrical outlet.

    • 2). Open the oven door and remove both cooking racks. Locate the oven sensor on the upper right side of the rear panel. The sensor will look like a long thin metal tube.

    • 3). Remove the two screws securing the oven sensor to the rear oven wall with a nut driver. Slowly pull the oven sensor away from the rear wall until the wire harness is accessible.

    • 4). Pull the wire harness off the end of the oven sensor and tape it to the rear wall to prevent it from slipping behind the wall cavity.

    • 5). Take the oven sensor to an appliance repair facility to purchase a replacement. Connect the oven wiring harness to the oven sensor wire block. The harness will only attach one way and you push the two together until the tabs lock.

    • 6). Insert the wire end of the oven sensor into the rear wall until the oven sensor mount plate is flush against the wall. Secure the oven sensor to the rear wall with the retaining screws.

    • 7). Place the cooking racks back inside the oven and close the oven door. Reach inside the drawer cavity and plug the power cord back into the outlet. Place the utility drawer back under the oven.
