What Type of Weather Does Mexico Have?
- Winter temperatures are mild on the northern Pacific coast and cooler at night. Summer temperatures are hot and often humid. South of Mazatlan temperatures are hot year-round, but less humid in winter. Summer and fall can bring occasional hurricanes.
- The Gulf Coast from Matamoros to Campeche is humid and hot year-round, often with afternoon thunderstorms. Winter cold fronts can sweep down from the United States to the northern portions of the coast. Hurricanes can strike in summer and fall.
- Winter temperatures are balmy and humidity low, while summer days can be steamy and hot. Evenings year round are cooler, sometimes even chilly in winter. Hurricanes, sometimes large and dangerous, threaten the Riviera Maya in the summer and fall.
- Towns in the central highlands enjoy pleasant summer days and cool evenings. Mexico City experiences afternoon rain showers in summer. Winter temperatures are cooler, but freezes are very rare.
- Oaxaca and the southern highlands experience hot days year-round with higher humidity in the May-September rainy season. Evenings are cooler. Temperatures in the arid desert north can be triple digit, but winter cold fronts bring a chill to the area.
- Hot summers and mild winters reign in Baja with higher humidity on the eastern side of the peninsula. Tropical storms and Pacific hurricanes can threaten the area in summer and fall.
