Make Your Own Fantasy Fragrance

The home is filled with various odours, some pleasant and others unpleasant. These may come from cooking, dirty nappies or clothing, cleaning materials or perhaps smelly bins. Candles are one of a number of ways to introduce a pleasant aroma into your home. Yankee Candle advise candle fans on how to create your own unique home fragrances based on the scents you like.

Wax Burners

The wax burner is one of the candle market's most popular products. These decorative pots, usually made of ceramic, are beautiful items and make great gifts. Wax burners come in various shapes and sizes. Some have small bowls suited to a small room and others have much larger bowls which are fantastic for creating much more powerful scents.

Wax Burners are used with wax tarts. Wax tarts are small beads of wax moulded into the shape of a tart, hence the name. They're very easy to use. You simply place a wax tart in the top of the wax burner and place an unscented tea light in the base and light the tea light. Wax tarts can be used with either oil, electric, or tea light burners, to which you must never add water.

The wax tarts release their aroma faster than other candle products so, once the tea light is lit, your room will begin to fill with the heady aroma of your favourite scent.

Mixology

So far, so conventional. This is a well known fragrancing method. However, Yankee Candle has come up with a fun concept called mixology, which turns home fragrancing into a bit of an experiment. Mixology is the practice of combining two or more fragrances to create your own sensational scents. To do this, you simply break pieces from different wax tarts and add to the bowl of the wax burner. As the wax tarts start to melt the fragrances will entwine to create your own blended scent. Customising aromas in this way is an art, though, so do think carefully about which scents might work well together. However, as wax tarts are available from Yankee Candle in a wide variety of eminently affordable fragrances they are the ideal for the amateur alchemist of aroma.

Wax tarts are the most simple and economical way to scent your home, often costing as little as 99p each so you can buy lots of different tarts and test many combinations together to create one that you really like.

So popular is the mixology concept that people have started to share their own recipes for wax mixes online, via Facebook and Twitter. Indeed the possibilities of fragrance mixology are limited only by your imagination. So why not start join in the fun by putting a little personality into your fragrances, create your own mixology recipes and share them with family, friends and other mixology fans via Yankee Store's facebook page.
