How to Repair & Paint Countertops

    • 1). Spray ammonia based cleaner on your countertops. Scrub the counters with a clean rag to remove all grease and residue.

    • 2). Mix two part epoxy according to package instructions. Scoop a tablespoon of epoxy onto a putty knife. Smooth the putty into a crack or chip in the counter surface. Repeat for any other cracks or chips. Let the putty harden completely.

    • 3). Attach fine grit sandpaper to a palm sander. Sand the entire counter to add a small amount of texture to the surface. Sand the patched areas until the spot feels smooth under your bare hand. Wipe away all sanding dust with a damp rag.

    • 4). Brush on primer in the corners of the counter with a trim brush. Choose a primer that is formulated for slick surfaces. Roll a thin, even coat of primer onto the rest of the counter. Allow the primer to dry for four hours.

    • 5). Paint the counter with latex paint using the same method used to apply the primer. Let the first coat to dry for four hours. Apply a second coat. Let the paint dry overnight.

    • 6). Apply urethane topcoat to the countertop with a clean foam roller. Apply one to two coats of topcoat. Let the paint cure completely before using.
