More than 90% of the Indians wear eyeglasses for better vision. Since the invention of Bifocals by Benjamin Franklin, there has not been much technology advancement in the Industry of Eyeglasses. Google has come up with eye wear which functions like a smart phone .These glasses can communicate to the internet and understand natural language processing and voice recognition. However with smart phone in a hand and a computer on the Desk Google's glasses did not entice the consumer.

Though the doctors are able to successfully address near sight, far sight and astigmatism, some patients still feel uncomfortable with glasses and have issues seeing during night like glare, blurring and double vision leading to fatal accidents and discomfort. These lenses are manufactured through advance technology and capable of reducing some of these higher order deviations like glare, blurring etc.

Another cool innovation which is still in the early stages of production came from Researchers in Oxford University .They developer smarter glasses for Blind people to easily navigate through the traffic .These smart eye glasses come up with a pair of cameras which can capture moving or non moving objects and translate them to pictures on the lenses.These lenses can detect the distance of these objects and translate the parameters in to speech providing directions .They can even provide locations,directions based on GPS and maps.

We have seen some changes in the material used for making the lenses. Earlier glass material was used to make lenses but now poly carbonate has become the industry norm for making eyeglasses lenses .High Index lenses is something driving the higher end of the market and Seiko –Japanese manufacturer is noted for making world thinnest lenses.Recently Rayban the world's largest seller of premium sunglasses has come up with innovative thermoplastic which was used in Hitech industries like aircrafts manufacturing, rockets etc.,This material from rayban is very light weight and highly durable and provides very good comfort to the eyeglasses wearers.

Industry also witnessed the advent of polaroid sunglasses couple of decades back and it saw some of the sunglasses sellers gaining market share by adopting this technology .All that polaroid sunglasses does is blocking at least 50% of the light coming from the sun and also supports ant-glare
