How to Wire a 4 Flat to a 6 Round
- 1). Purchase a trailer electrical adapter that has a 4-pole flat connection on one side and a 6-pole round connection on the other. Make sure these connections match the harnesses on your trailer and vehicle.
- 2). Push the 4-pole end of the adapter into the trailer's 4-pole connector.
- 3). Push the 6-pole end of the adapter into the vehicle's 6-pole connector.
- 4). Test that the trailer's lights respond properly to the vehicle's commands.
- 1). Cut the six wires as close to the vehicle harness as possible with wire cutters. Strip 3/8 inches of insulation off the green, yellow, white, and brown wires.
- 2). Connect the brown wire from the vehicle with the brown wire on the 4-pole flat harness with a butt connector by inserting one wire into each end and compressing with pliers. Join the green, yellow, and white wires using the same method.
- 3). Wrap each of the connections in electrical tape including the ends of two cut wires you didn't connect with electrical tape. Hold all the wires together and wrap with electrical tape to provide additional protection from the elements.
- 4). Connect the vehicle's 4-pole flat connector to the trailer and test that the trailer's lights work properly.
