Salary of a professional Tax Agent

Tax agents are always in high demand all across the country. They are recruited in both private and public sectors. But the career paths of the tax professionals are mainly governmental. They are chiefly employed in any one of the three areas of the government including- local, state and federal. But, the pay scale varies from sectors to sectors. The income of the agents also depends on the location they are employed in.

There are around 70,000 tax agents employed in various parts of the United States. According to a latest review by the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Occupational Employment and Wages, the government employed tax professionals are receiving $49,360 on an average. BLS also noted the salary range of the agents is around $29,540 and the earning rate is 10th percentile while $92,250 at the 90th percentile is rated.

The government salary structures for the tax professionals:

Tax consultants working in government sectors in the US have the liberty to choose their branch and area where they want to work. This decision has a great impact on their salaries as well. Those who are employed under the federal executive branch are the highest payee employees as listed by BLS. The annual mean wages of this sector of government is $63,480 that is rated as the highest paying government industry. The state government is on the second position offering second highest pay scales to their tax consultants. The average wage under this sector is around $49,380. The tax associate under the local government is significantly less paid, with the wage rated around $43,440.

Salary of the professionals according to States:

Tax professionals posted in Connecticut area are the highest in the country according to a latest survey by BLS. The annual mean wages of the workers are $74,460. Employers in the state of New Jersey are the 2nd highest paid workers with average $71,830. This is followed by Alaska with a pay structure of at $70,390. Tax representatives at Illinois are the fourth highest paid employees at wages rating about $68,810. North Dakota holds fifth position with the average wage of $67,040. The lowest paid tax agents are in Puerto Rico and West Virginia. The average annual wages of the tax representatives of these states are between-$23,710-37,550 annually.        

It is not always true that states with largest contingents of tax mediator offer the best pay packages to the employees. California owes the largest numbers of these professionals but the average wage offered annually to the tax representatives is around $61,740. New York is marked as the 2nd largest per capita state in United States pays $62,430. Pennsylvania is in the fourth category offering below average annual wage of $47,170. Standing on the fifth position, Texas pays more than average wage-$53,030.

Career of the tax mediators:

Each year large number of people opt for this career option because of good career prospects. The country is also opening up new opportunities for tax agents because of the increased demand of professionals in the said field.
