- 1). Open Maya. Select "File" from the menu and choose "Open." In the dialog that appears, locate a file you want to get the UV map from and open it.
- 2). Change the selection mode to polygonal. Select the entire polygonal surface of the model.
- 3). Select the "UV Texture Editor." In the dialog that opens, select "Polygons" and choose "Snapshot."
- 4). Name the file in the "Snapshot" dialog "something_uv" and choose the location you want to save it to. Make the size 1024 by 1024 and the file type "Targa" or "PNG." Click "OK."
- 5). Open Photoshop. Select "File" from the menu and choose "Open." In the dialog that appears, locate the image you just saved from Maya and open it. You can now use the tools of Photoshop to paint a texture map for the model.
