How to Copyright Material in Canada
- 1). Create an Industry Canada user account to register a copyright online. You can find a link to the Industry Canada registration page under "Resources."
- 2). Go to the CIPO website (see Resources).
- 3). Click on "Filing a copyright application." Click on "Copyright application form."
- 4). Complete the copyright registration application form. Include the title and category of the work, information on whether the piece has been published, the author of the work and the owner of the copyright.
- 5). Pay your fee with a major credit card. The processing fee for an online copyright registration is $50. Click on "Submit."
- 1). Get a copyright registration application form. You can download and print this from the CIPO website or order one by calling 1-866-997-1936.
- 2). Complete the registration of a copyright application form, including the title and category of the work, information on whether the piece has been published, the author of the work and who the owner of the copyright will be.
- 3). Pay your fee. The fee for a mail-in application is $65. You can pay with a major credit card or a check or money order payable to the Receiver General for Canada.
