Looking Good With Alopecia!

I don't think many people fully understand how utterly debilitating hair loss can be! - I am speaking more from an emotional point of view here. The hair on your head defines who you are and when your hair looks good, you feel good. Low self-esteem and lack of self confidence often lead you into a downward spiral of depression.

Alopecia Areata:
Alopecia areata can take many forms. It can manifest itself as fairly minor patches of baldness limited only to the scalp or it can become far more severe and affect the entire body. If you suffer from extensive alopecia you might be looking for a more permanent way (other than make up) to disguise facial hair loss.

What is micropigmentation? (no, it's not breeding small pigs!!):
Micropigmentation (also known as cosmetic tattooing) is a very effective procedure for patients who have severe alopecia areata and have lost their eyebrows. Having no eyebrows has the effect of distorting the symmetry of the face as the definition around the eyes is lost.
Prior to treatment, you should receive an initial consultation (from a fully trained and qualified practitioner) where your skin colouring and face shape is analysed to ensure the correct pigment colour is selected. You would normally be patch-tested to see if there is any allergic reaction to the pigment or local anaesthetic.
The micropigmentation process involves inserting advanced custom blended pigments into the dermal layer of the skin using a precision hand-held device. This is traced over a pre-drawn template for complete accuracy or in some cases your facial bone structure will dictate the shape of your new eyebrows. The final reinstatement of both eyebrows is likely to take under two hours and the procedure is relatively painless.

What other parts of the body can benefit from micropigmentation?:
In addition to eyebrow micropigmentation, the cosmetic tattooing technique is very effective in the following areas too:-
Eyelash enhancement, where dots of pigment are added along the lash line (in place of eye-liner). Lip enhancement, where colour, fullness & shape can be restored to fading lips. Areola re-pigmentation can be used as the final step after breast reconstruction surgery for cancer or breast augmentation patients. Facial scar reduction / hair transplant scarring reduction.

How long will the treatment last?:
Micropigmentation is only semi-permanent and in most cases should last for several years (depending upon skin type and lifestyle). During this time the colour will start to fade and most patients will often return every one to two years for a top-up treatment. The colour pigment is not affected by showering or swimming.
