Angular Stomatitis - Overview and Symptoms of Angular Stomatitis

Do you have cuts at the corner of the mouth? Does it pain when you try to open the mouth wide? If you answer yes then it may be a condition known as angular stomatitis.
This is also commonly known as angular cheilitis, cheilosis or perleche.
All these refer to the same condition.
Let us have a brief overview about this condition.
Angular Stomatitis effects many people especially young kids and old people.
Some studies have associated this disease with weak immune system which is true in case of small children and old people.
There are several other causes also which are responsible for this condition.
Lip licking, accumulation of saliva at the corners of the mouth, not cleaning the mouth properly, fixing the dentures wrongly etc.
These and some other conditions have been blamed for causing angular stomatitis.
Some of the symptoms are cuts at the corners of the mouth, cracks and bumps.
Sometimes bleeding also occurs when opening the mouth widely.
It is advisable to keep your mouth closed and when you talk do not open it widely.
It is not life threatening but the pain is sometimes unbearable and it may continue for long time.
People can be found who have been suffering from this disease for several years altogether.
In short I can say that angular stomatitis is a common infection and don't panic if it stays for some time.
You may even face some mental problems because people will say some things which hurt you.
Don't take it to heart because it can definitely be treated.
