1996 Cadillac Seville Wheel Bearing Instructions
- 1). Loosen the five lug nuts on the front driver's side wheel of your Cadillac Seville with your lug nut driver.
- 2). Place the jack below the frame near the front driver's side wheel. Lift the Cadillac Seville until the front driver's side wheel no longer touches the ground. Slide the jack stand below the Seville. Lower the car onto the jack stand. Remove the lug nuts. Pull off the wheel.
- 3). Remove the three bolts behind the brake caliper with your 12 mm socket wrench and ratchet.
- 4). Slip a screwdriver through the opening of the caliper. Press the head of the screwdriver against the rotor to loosen the caliper from the rotor. Pull the caliper off the rotor. Hang the caliper from the bungee cord. Tie the bungee cord to the strut.
- 5). Pull off the rotor by hand.
- 6). Set the spindle socket around the spindle nut. Attach the ratchet to the socket. Press counterclockwise to loosen the nut. Do not hesitate in applying as much force as possible to loosen this nut; it is always very tight.
- 7). Disconnect the anti-lock braking cable from the wheel bearing. Press in the top tab of the wiring harness. Pull the harness off of the plug.
- 8). Loosen and remove the three bolts on the inboard side of the steering knuckle to loosen the wheel bearing.
- 9). Pull the wheel bearing off of the knuckle. Tap the back of it with your mallet if it does not come off easily. Pry it loose from the knuckle if it still does not loosen.
- 10
Pull off the wheel bearing shield from the steering knuckle. Pry it off if it is frozen to the steering knuckle. - 11
Pry out the wheel bearing seal from the steering knuckle. Push the axle rod out of the way to reach the seal. - 12
Clean the steering knuckle with your sand paper to prepare a mating surface for the new seal and wheel bearing shield. - 13
Smother grease onto the axle rod spindle and wheel bearing shield and seal mating surface on the steering knuckle. - 14
Insert the seal into the steering knuckle. Set the shield over the knuckle. Mount the new wheel bearing to the knuckle by securing it in place with the three bolts removed earlier. Connect the anti lock brake cable to the new wheel bearing. - 15
Set the rotor over the new wheel bearing. Reconnect the caliper to the rotor. Replace the spindle nut. Remount the wheel. Lower the Seville. - 16
Repeat Steps 1 through 15 for the other wheel bearings.
