Texas is the second-largest state in the nation, stretching across more than 268,000 square miles. Nicknamed the Lone Star State, Texas has 90 state parks in seven geographic regions. A number of those state parks include lakes. - Caddo Lake State Park, in Karnack, is a maze of slough, bayous and ponds, covering almost 27,000 acres of cypress swamp. Activities include picnicking, nature study, swimming, camping, hiking, fishing, boating and canoeing. The lake contains 71 species of fish and is especially good for crappie and largemouth and white bass. Caddo Lake State Park offers restrooms without showers, various campsites, screened shelters, cabins, boat launching ramp, canoe rentals and a trailer dump station. Other amenities include a group recreation hall, interpretive center, playgrounds, hiking trails and nature trail. Caddo Lake State Park is open seven days a week year-round with its busy season from March through November.

Activities include picnicking, inline skating, mountain biking, hiking, swimming, fishing and boating. The lake contains crappie, bass and catfish with rainbow trout stocked at the park every winter. Facilities within the park include restrooms, various camp sites, screened shelters and cabins. Other park services include a group picnic pavilion, barbecue grill, hiking and mountain biking trails, playground, lighted fishing pier, fish-cleaning facilities, boat ramp and Texas State Park store. Lake Bob Sandlin State Park is open seven days a week year-round with its busy season from March through July.

Its 21,000-acre lake contains crappie, sunfish, bass and catfish. Lake Corpus Christi State Park offers picnicking, bird watching, swimming, camping, boating, water skiing, fishing and hiking. Facilities include restrooms, picnic sites, various campsites and screened shelters. Other amenities are two fishing piers, fish-cleaning shelters, launching ramps, group picnic pavilion and a trailer dump station. The park, open seven days a week year-round with a busy season on weekends and holidays.
