How to Install Central Air & Heat

    • 1). Plan the duck work. This is a very important step and must be completed to identify the space available. Check to see if space is available for each room you plan to have connected to the unit.

    • 2). Take the air handler and install it. This part will come with manufacturer's instructions, so pay close attention to them. The air handler should be installed in the basement. Ensure the condensed drain is attached. Make sure that it isn't installed next to a concrete wall.

    • 3). Run the tubing from the air handler outside of the home and away from the foundation.

    • 4). Turn off the main power to the home.

    • 5). Install the compressor. Make sure that it is at least 12 inches away from the foundation or any shrubbery. Place a plastic base on leveled ground. Place the compressor on top of the plastic base.

    • 6). Drill 2 holes through the outer wall. Place the refrigeration tube through one hole and the electrical tube through the other. Fill any gaps in the holes with filler strong enough to block any leakage or movement of the tubing.

    • 7). Connect the compressor and air handler to the main power supply.

    • 8). Install the thermostat wall panel. A hole will have to be drilled in the wall. Attach the thermostat to the wall with the screws that comes with it. Connect the thermostat to the main power supply.

    • 9). Restore power to the home by switching the main power switch back on.

Check every part of the unit to make sure that everything is connected properly. Go over the instructions again to make sure that you didn't skip any steps.

Test the unit by adjusting the thermostat. First turn on the air, then the heat.
