Homemade Ashtray
- 1). Preheat your oven to the temperature noted in the clay manufacturer's directions.
- 2). Remove the clay from its packaging. Press your fingers into the clay and begin kneading and pressing the clay to warm it up and condition it for your project. Continue until the clay is soft and pliable.
- 3). Roll the clay out onto a flat surface using your rolling pin. Aim to roll the clay to a thickness of 1/4 to 1/2 inch.
- 4). Press the rim of your water glass firmly into the flat clay. Turn the glass while pressing to cut a round shape out of the clay.
- 5). Remove your circle of clay from the rest. Set aside the rest of the clay for other projects.
- 6). Stand the glass in the center of the clay circle. Fold the edges of the clay up around the base of the glass, making a bowl shape around the glass. Pinch together the excess clay to create smooth, round edges.
- 7). Slide the glass up and out of your clay bowl carefully. Make any final adjustments to the shape of your ashtray.
- 8). Place the ashtray onto your baking sheet and bake for the designated time. Follow the directions on the clay's packaging.
- 9). Remove the ashtray from the oven after the appropriate cooking time. Allow to cool completely before decorating or using.
