How to Make a Story Online & Then Print It Out
- 1). Compose your story at the online site. Even though you writing online your story will still need a good opening, sufficient background, compelling action, underlying conflict and a robust ending.
- 2). Format your story with line breaks to separate each paragraph. Don't use paragraph indentations at this point because they often get eliminated when the text is transferred, resulting in one large block of text with no indication of separate paragraphs.
- 3). Open Notepad. Notepad is a basic text editor that comes with just about all computers that contain a Windows operating system. It can be found under accessories and once you click on the program a blank page will open up.
- 4). Copy your text. This is done by first highlighting the words of the story and then opening up the dropdown menu underneath the "Edit" heading at the top of the page. Left click on "Copy" and now your text is ready to transfer.
- 5). Paste the text into Notepad. Leftclick on the paste command that is located on the dropdown menu under "Edit". This step is necessary in order to "clean up" the text and remove all formatting that might have been embedded in the story. The process also removes any extraneous data that might cause your word processing program to shut down when the text is added later on. Microsoft Works in particular is prone to shutting down when transferring text.
- 6). Open your word processing program. Microsoft Word or Office is the standard for most computers, but other programs like Wordpad or Microsoft Works might come with your computer.
- 7). Select the font face and font size for your text. These dropdown boxes are usually found at the left top of the browser page above the workspace for the text.
- 8). Copy the text from Notepad.
- 9). Paste the text into the word processing program.
