Stephen King"s Christine

Stephen King is one of the most prolific and popular writers of our time and has penned many classics.
In this book, King tells the story of a high school teenager named Arnie Cunningham and his car, named Christine.
Arnie has had a tough life.
He is picked on at school and has only one real friend, a high school jock named Dennis.
Dennis always sticks up for Arnie when he is given a hard time.
When Arnie saves up enough money to get his own car, he notices a broken down 1958 Plymouth Fury in the wrecking yard.
The car needs major work, but Arnie doesn't care.
He has to have it.
Despite the advice of Dennis and the disapproval of his parents, Arnie buys this car and takes a job at a shop, where he can work on the car.
He restores this car to pristine condition, and there are hints that the car has a mind of its own.
Christine will even take a midnight ride alone on occasion when she wants to.
In fact, there are some disturbing passages in the book where she tracks down and kills some of Arnie's enemies, unbeknownst to him.
At one point, she demonstrates a remarkable regenerating ability.
It's not just the car that changes.
When Arnie restores the Plymouth, he becomes a different and more confident person.
He even gets his first girlfriend, a pretty girl named Leigh.
Life finally seems to be going well for him, but in typical Stephen King fashion, things take a turn for the worse.
Arnie has formed a close bond with Christine, almost as if she were his girlfriend.
He defends her against anybody who says a bad word about her.
If anybody tries to hurt him, Christine will take a ride alone and deal with the problem with grave consequences.
Everybody tries to warn him that his car is no good for him, but Arnie refuses to listen.
He thinks they are just jealous, as you might expect things get out of control.
Arnie stats off as a somewhat sympathetic character.
One can almost understand how he will let go and head down the dark path he travels.
He and Christine form a strong bond, and the possessed classic car will do whatever she can to remove anybody Arnie has shown affection for from his life.
Nothing will stop her.
I'd rather not say how it all ends.
You need to read this classic from Stephen King to see for yourself.
This story will grab you and hold you from the beginning to the end.
Once again, King shows his ability to write from the viewpoint of different characters.
You gain insight into the thoughts of these characters as the chapters swap from the perspectives of Arnie, Leigh and Dennis.
That makes this story very engaging to the reader.
The book was so popular, it was made into a movie, directed by John Carpenter.
As it is in most cases, you should read the book first.
You won't be disappointed.
