Is It Time You Replaced Your Old Front Door?

Your front door may need replacing because it's old and tired , or maybe you have decided that it is old fashioned and just want to update it.  If it's made of wood, it could have become damp and rotten through age.  Or your door may be broken, which means it is quite possible that your door is no longer keeping your home safe and secure.  Nor is a broken door is likely to be protecting your home from the weather as well as it used to.  Whatever the reason, you should look at each of these factors before deciding on your choice of new door.

A front door which needs replacing because it is damaged could be causing unnecessary risk to you and your home, as it will not be providing you with the level of security you need for protection.  And with an unsecured home, insurance companies are less likely to look sympathetically on any related claims which arise.  This means that, when deciding which door to choose, your first consideration should be what security it will provide. UPVC doors are more secure than ever as manufacturing techniques improve all the time, so you can now have doors with security locking systems which are multi-point, with a fully reinforced, high –density foam core. Doors can also now be manufactured to specification levels preferred by the police, which will ensure you have a new front door which is as secure as possible.

Energy efficiency is the next thing to think about, once you have considered your security.  You can now find doors with thermal insulation up to 6 times that of a standard wooden or UPVC door.  This will help prevent heat-loss, thus saving you money on your annual fuel bill.  If you happen to live on a noisy, busy road, this insulation will also provide you with soundproofing, whilst a triple-sealed door will give additional protection against the weather and any sneaky draughts.  However, even with these levels of insulation, a high quality UPVC replacement door is still far lighter than its wood counterpart, and should not expand or contract in response to changes in the temperature or weather, unlike a traditional wood door.

You should now be ready to decide what you want your door to look like.  Your front door is often the first thing people see when they visit your home, so it is probably desirable to make sure their first impression is positive.  By replacing your old door, you can easily update or even transform it.  These days, the possibilities are extensive, with UPVC replacement doors now available in a wide range of colours and styles to suit your personal taste, and an extensive choice of glazing options.  If you have decided you want the security and energy efficiency that a UPVC door will give you, but know that you would prefer to have a traditional wooden door, it is also possible to marry the two with high quality wood grain effects now available in UPVC.
