Jim Sturgess' Background:

Jim Sturgess' first film role came in 1994 in Mike Figgis' remake of The Browning Version. Prior to that Sturgess attended the National Youth Music Theatre. In his teens his interest turned to music, singing and playing guitar at local pubs. He also studied filmmaking and theatre at University of Salford's School of Media, Music and Performance.

After concentrating on music for a while, Sturgess got back into acting with a part in Alison Murray's short film Mouth to Mouth (2004) alongside Ellen Page.

Breakthrough Role:

Sturgess helped bring The Beatles music to life onscreen in Julie Taymor's trippy musical Across the Universe, a film which allowed him to show off his acting and musical skills.
