Becoming an Air Force Reserve Pilot

    Joining the Air Force

    • You must first join the Air Force to become an Air Force Reserve pilot. This involves several months of basic training, and intensive flight school that includes ground and air training. After this you will serve as an Air Force pilot completing combat missions or simple air drops, depending on where you are stationed and your skills.

    Serving in the Air Force

    • Most people will serve full-time in the Air Force for four years. You will be stationed at an air base, or in some cases deployed to a military station overseas. During this time you will acquire new skills and fly several types of planes. Depending on the skills you acquire and your experience you may choose to stay in the Air Force for additional time.

    Joining the Reserves

    • Most reservists have completed their service in the regular Air Force and now have chosen to be part of the reserves. They serve near where they live on the weekends, and could be called up to action if needed. A few reservists have been assigned to the reserves. Non-enlisted civilians can also join the reserves and receive some training to become a pilot, however this is not the traditional route.
