Plastic Surgeons and Trends

There are millions of cosmetic procedures performed in the United States each year.
Although a recession hit its most devastating climax around 2008, plastic surgeons have been seeing an upward surge in each year since.
The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery publishes annual statistical data in regards to the most popular cosmetic procedures and demographic information about who underwent each.

But the plastic surgeons use the data from the previous years, at least three, to determine growing trends and patients seem to want permanent if not long lasting changes.
The surgical procedures they pursued in 2011 were liposuction and tummy tucks with effects that can last the rest of a patient's life with diligent upkeep.
Breast augmentations and lifts followed close behind along with eyelid surgery to have the most significant impact on the rejuvenation of the face.
But these trends not only inform plastic surgeons they entice other doctors to begin practicing in the cosmetic area based on which procedures patients are headed towards in the coming year.
Plastic surgeons can perform a variety of surgeries, but a specialist in a defined area of the body or type of procedure such as liposuction or a breast lift which displays more expertise.
However, cosmetic procedures can also be performed by dermatologists and otolaryngologists.
A dermatologist is of course a doctor who knows and has extensive experience with all skin related irritations, infections, diseases, growths, and abrasions.
An otolaryngologist is an ear, nose and throat doctor who understands the inner workings of the tissue, bones and nerves that encompass those areas.
Both doctors ability to achieve cosmetic surgery licensing would be helpful to patients seeking the popular non-surgical procedures such as Botox injections of the face and neck, hyaluronic acid facial fillers, laser hair removal or microdermabrasion because there is already so much that they understand about the face, neck, and skin.
Anyone can practice cosmetic surgery but it is up to the patient to educate him or herself on the background of the operating surgeon and to make an intelligent choice for their body and their health.
