How to Determine Thread Pitch With a Ruler

    • 1). Measure from one thread on the screw to another thread. Make sure you cover at least five threads. For example, assume the screw measures 1 inch.

    • 2). Count the number of threads you measured. The first thread you count is zero, so this thread is not part of what you are counting. In the example, assume there are four threads.

    • 3). Divide the length between threads by the number of threads you counted to calculate thread pitch. In the example, 1 inch divided by four threads equals a thread pitch of 0.25.
