Getting Pulled Over - What to Do
When getting stopped for a traffic infraction, there are do's and there are dont's.
Here are a few of each- Do's- Make sure you turn the engine off AND your radio is off.
There is nothing worse than having the officer ask you to turn off your car and/or your radio.
If he has to do this, you already are off on the wrong foot.
Make sure by the time the officer has approached your vehicle that you already have the proper paperwork in hand.
This includes your driver license, current registration and your insurance card.
Even if it is an expired card, hand this to the officer.
He may still cite you for not having a current insurance card, but he may not give you the very expensive no insurance ticket.
If you have a concealed weapons permit and you have the gun in the car, roll down your window and stick both of your hands out.
Let the officer know there is a weapon in the car, but first let him know that you have a permit for the gun.
Don'ts- Never be disrespectful and argue with the officer.
This may not only guarantee you a ticket, but it could soon escalate into a full-blown arrest.
Never talk yourself into a ticket.
Admit what you did was wrong and sincerely apologize.
This alone may show your honesty and save you from a ticket.
Not always, but it is the best thing you can do.
If there was actually a false reason you are getting pulled over, then you can take that up with the officer in court, not when you are on the side of the road.
You have no ground to stand on and in court you can actually provide documentation of your case.
If the officer does not show up to the hearing, there is a good chance that your case will be dismissed with no charges incurred.
