Contemporary Opinion Finally Catches Up With Ignatius Piazza" s

Ignatius Piazza, the founder and director of Front Sight Firearms Training Institute, has been saying it for years: we must defend our schools correctly. After the attacks at Columbine, Dr. Ignatius Piazza was calling for schools to arm up, and after the Virginia Tech tragedy, he called again, for colleges this time. Now, in an article being run across the nation on headlines everywhere, colleges are at last realizing that arming those who protect the school is the only effective method of guarding the school.

According to an Associated Press article run on the front page of U.S. News on Thursday, September 20th, 2007, "universities that do not permit campus police to carry guns are rethinking the firearms bans." Dr. Ignatius Piazza has, for years, been advocating the arming of teachers and guards of schools. Since the first school shooting, Dr. Piazza has been stressing the importance of prevention through training and understanding of firearms.

Front Sight Firearms Training Institute is the nation's largest firearms training school. And some may think that it is for profit that Dr. Ignatius Piazza tries to get teachers and guards to his school. But this is not the case. Dr. Ignatius Piazza has offered to foot the bill for any three teachers from any and all school districts in the nation to come to Front Sight and receive world-class handgun training from the world's top-most gun training experts for free. His offer still stands, and while many private schools have taken advantage of his offer (and then have gone on to pay for many and more of their teachers to get the training), very few public schools have.

Front Sight hopes that this article in the U.S. News will help to turn the opinions of some of those in the nation who are 'on the fence' about arming and training their staff. Huge leaps are being made in the area of arming guards: according to the article, "On Tuesday, Iowa Gov. Chet Culver, a 1988 Virginia Tech graduate, endorsed a recommendation to arm officers at the state's three public universities, which serve more than 50,000 students."

Not only are school police being trained and armed, but "Nevada education officials next month plan to take up a proposal to allow some college faculty members and staffers across eight public campuses to carry guns as part of a special reserve officer corps."

Mindsets across the nation are clearly changing in regard to whether or not schools and colleges should be protected by those who are armed. And it is Dr. Ignatius Piazza's opinion that it's about time! For years he's been practically screaming it at the top of his lungs: guns stop guns. Training means responsibility. Responsibility means control and safety.

For Dr. Ignatius Piazza and Front Sight, this is a huge success: finally the nation is realizing that firearms are not causing school shootings and the terrible atrocities that we've seen nearly 200 times in the last few years: lack of responsible, effective firearms training is causing them. At last the media (the mind of the public) is revealing that safe, effective gun training is the best and truly only way to handle school shootings.
