Why You Should Attempt Yoga
Some people think that yoga is too difficult for them or that they aren't fit enough to do the postures but those are myths which I would like to dispel for you.
The reasons that you should attempt yoga are as follows: You do as much as your own body can do: Yoga is not about being competitive so you do whatever you're able to do.
Each time you practice you concentrate on doing that little bit more, even if it's only stretching a millimetre more than the time before, so that over time you gradually enable your body to work as fully as it can.
You don't have to be superfit: Yoga is for everyone whatever your level of fitness, you don't have to be able to do all the postures immediately.
You don't judge yourself against what others do: The most important thing about doing yoga with a group of others is not to compare what you can do with what they are doing.
It's about what you can do with your body rather than necessarily keeping up with the rest of the group.
A good yoga teacher should be able to suggest adaptations of the various postures that work well with any disabilities, pain or difficulties you may have.
It exercises your body: There's no doubt about it, yoga is very useful form of exercise which enables you to keep flexible and move all parts of your body.
Particularly as you get older is extremely important to keep your body moving and flexible.
It relaxes your mind: Yoga practice finishes with a period of relaxation which is very beneficial after any session and exercise.
However even while you are doing the physical postures of yoga, you need to concentrate fully on what your body is doing and this in itself relaxes your mind and stops you thinking about any current worries you may have.
You become more flexible in both body and mind: This allows you to be more tolerant of others, listen to other people's point of view and open up possibilities for yourself and others.
You discover the benefits of relaxation: You like everyone else needs to have time to relax and is doing yoga on a regular basis enables you to experience a few moments of letting go of both body and mind.
Having experienced this, remember to spend a few moments relaxing during the course of a busy day by closing your eyes and taking a few slow breaths in and out while you relax any tension in your body.
