How to Keep a Bobbin in Place on a Kenmore 1602 Sewing Machine
- 1). Remove all thread from the sewing machine, including the top thread and the bobbin.
- 2). Clean the machine so that all loose thread and lint is not clogging the bobbin area. This will make the bobbin pop out. Remove the screw that holds the metal plate in place and set both aside. Use tweezers to remove any thread or lint.
- 3). Stick a cotton swab down into areas where tweezers do not fit to remove any excess thread or lint. Replace the plate.
- 4). Start with a new bobbin and re-thread it. Hold the bobbin between your thumb and first finger. Wind the thread a few times away from your body around the bobbin using your other hand.
- 5). Finish winding the bobbin using the bobbin threader. Avoid touching the thread because this can cause it to bind or come unwound.
- 6). Put the bobbin back into position with the loose end of the thread facing away from you. Pull out 3 inches of thread and replace the bobbin lid.
- 7). Thread the machine again. Lower your sewing machine needle slowly to allow the top thread to pick up the bobbin thread. Test on a scrap piece of cloth.
