Overview
Fort Bragg first came into existence in 1918, when 127,000 acres of desolate sand, hills and pine trees were designated as a U.S. Army installation. Adequate water, rail facilities and the Carolina climate was perfect for the Army needs and Camp Bragg became a field artillery site on August 21, 1918. It was named in honor of Confederate General Braxton Bragg, a former artillery officer and North Carolinian.
Congress decided in February 1922, that all artillery sites east of the Mississippi River would become permanent Army posts. The camp was redesignated as Fort Bragg, September 30, 1922.
The 82d Airborne Division was assigned to Fort Bragg in 1946, upon its return form WWII in Europe. In 1951, XVIII Airborne Corps was reactivated at Bragg and Fort Bragg became widely known as the "home of the airborne." Today Fort Bragg and neighboring Pope Air Force Base form one of the largest military complexes in the world.

Fort Bragg is the largest US Army base by population. It is known as the Home of the Airborne and Special Operation Force. Fort Bragg houses the XVIII Airborne Corps and the 82nd Airborne Division. The U.S. Army Special Operations Command and the U.S. Army Parachute Team (the Golden Knights).
Fort Bragg units include the 1st Corps Support Command, 44th Medical Command, XVIII Airborne Corps Artillery, 18th Aviation Brigade, 35th Signal Brigade, and more.

Fort Bragg is located just west of Fayetteville, North Carolina.
If arriving by commercial airline, the Fayetteville Regional Airport is located approximately 12 miles from Fort Bragg. From the airport terminal to Hwy 301 it is about 1.5 miles. Turn right on Hwy 301 and follow onto the intersection of OWEN Dr. (to your left) and WILKES Street (to your right). Make a left turn onto Owen Dr. stay on Owen Dr.
(it will become All American Freeway), follow the All American Freeway until you arrive at Reilly Street. Exit, once you are on Reilly Street. Get in your left lane and turn left at the light on to Normandy Drive.
If traveling by POV, I-95 South you will take exit 56 toward Fayetteville, Fort Bragg, Pope AFB, US 301 South. You will make a right at the first light on to Grove Street / NC-24/ NC-210 at the end you will turn right onto Bragg BLVD /NC-24/ NC-210. Continue to follow Bragg BLVD to SANTA FE Drive. Turn left on SANTA FE Drive at the next light you will murge onto the ALL AMERICAN FWY. This will bring you in to Fort Bragg.
If you are traveling by POV, I95 North you will Merge onto I-95 BR N /US-301 N toward Fayetteville/ Fort Bragg/ Pope AFB. Continue on US-301 for approximately 7.3 mile Turn left on to Owen Drive continue on Owen Drive it will turn into All American FEY. it will bring you into Fort Bragg once you pass though the Accsee Control Point you will take the secont exit which is Reilly Street.
Get in your left lane and turn left at the light onto Normandy Drive you will see the Soldier Support Center on your left.

Due to the influx of active duty troops required to reside in base lodging, reservations for other than official government travel will only be accepted seven days in advance for short term stays (not to exceed four days). They will gladly assist you in finding other off base lodging, and appreciate your patience and understanding to support our active duty soldiers and their families.
Soldiers processing in and out of Fort Bragg on PCS orders have priority.
Based on occupancy projections, space-available travelers may make reservations up to 30 days in advance. Pets ARE NOT permitted in any facilities.
The Airborne Inn is the official lodging office on Fort Bragg. If guests decide to stay at Landmark or off post they will only be reimbursed up to the on base official rate.
The Airborne Inn has three guest houses: the Delmont House, Leal House (only lodging with pet rooms) and Normandy House, three transient lodges: Moon Hall, Hardy Hall, and Forrestal Hall and one DVQ (Distinguised Visitors Quarters): Sink Guest House. All offer color TV, voice mail, High Speed Internet Service, microwave, refrigerator, in-room coffee maker, hair dryer, common-use kitchen and much more. Incoming PCS personnel may occupy guest house facilities up to 30 days without loss of BAQ. Rates are - $45.00 per day for all ranks.
Landmark is not a government official lodging facility but a commercial hotel on post.
Statements of non-availability will only be issued if official on post lodging is not available. Official travelers must attempt to gain on post official lodging first before a statement will be issued. If space is not available, a statement will be issued.
Housing
All military families who would like to move on post are required to apply for housing and go on a waiting list if there is not immediate availability. This process is done though the Picerne Military Housing Welcome Center located on the 6th floor of the Soldier Support Center.
All incoming families must apply for on-post housing within 30 days of signing into the installation in order to obtain credit for leave, TDY, restricted tour, etc., on housing waiting list.
You are eligible for Privatized Family Housing at Fort Bragg if you are an active duty service member with accompanying family members assigned to an installation within 35 miles of Fort Bragg. For new move-ins, on the date of occupancy, military members must have a minimum of six months remaining on their current duty assignment.
There are more than 4,700 homes under Picerne Military Housing's ownership and management on-post. There are two, three and four-bedroom multi-family buildings, duplexes and single homes in 9 communities located on Fort Bragg. Fort Bragg also has 250 sets of two and four bedroom leased houses in Hoke County. Leased housing is offered to soldiers in grades PVT though SMG.
Normally, there is a waiting period for each category of housing. The housing assignments are determined by grade category and bedroom requirements.
For single PVT-SSG there are 15,928 spaces available in 112 permanent party barracks, and 8 student barracks with 1,302 spaces. Barracks are divided into 9 Housing Areas comprised of different styles consisting of 4, 3, 2 and 1-soldier rooms.
All single soldiers (PVT-SSG) are required to reside in the barracks if space is available.
Schools
The Fort Bragg Schools consist of one junior high, one middle school and six elementary schools, plus an elementary school on Pope AFB., with an enrollment of 4,600 students in grade pre-school through nine. Students must live on the military installation (Fort Bragg or Pope AFB), or have 5 months or less to obtain on post housing. Pupils in grades 10-12, whose parents reside at Fort Bragg or Pope AFB., will be assigned to the E.E.
Smith High School (Cumberland County School).
The following information is required for registration in the Fort Bragg Schools: Birth Certificate, Immunization Records, Record Proof of Residence on Fort Bragg, Social Security Number, Report Card (for the beginning of the year if student was promoted), Current Standardized Test Scores, Special Program Paperwork (Academically Gifted, English Language, etc).
Child Development Services provides developmental child care under three different methods: center-based, home based (Family Child Care) and alternative child care options through Supplemental Programs and Services. Child care provisions can be made for children 4 weeks of age to 12 years of age for full day, part day, hourly, extended, long term and special needs care.

The FCC is a part of Child and Youth Service and accepts children ages 4 weeks to 12 years. There are more than 135 homes in the Fort Bragg community and surrounding area that offer developmental and age-appropriate child care in a home setting by certified providers, on and off post, who like and respect children. Long term, before and after school, Special Needs, extended, overnight and hourly care is provided.
School Age Services (SAS) offers care for before and after school with options for before school only or after school only. Each of these options entitles program participants to full day care services during out of school periods, excluding Federal Holidays, during the school year. Additionally, separate SAS camps were operated during Winter and Spring breaks for those patrons who normally do not require daily before and after school care.
During the summer months, SAS operates a full day camp option, in ten, one-week sessions and eight, one week half day sessions.
Womack Army Medical Center opened its doors on March 9, 2000. Fifty different government offices, several prime contractors, 75 subcontractors, $400 million and almost a decade of planning and implementation delivered one the Army's most technologically advanced health-care facilities.
The center is named for Private First Class Bryant Homer Womack, Army Medical Department, a native of North Carolina, who was awarded posthumously the Medal of Honor for conspicuous gallantry on 12 March 1952 near Sokso-ri, Korea.

Joel Health and Dental Clinic: Soldiers and family members assigned to Joel include: 1st Sustainment Command, 18th Aviation Brigade, 44th Medical Brigade, 229th Aviation Regiment and US Army Parachute Team. Active duty soldiers of 18th Personnel Support Battalion, Retirees enrolled in TRICARE Prime. CLINIC HOURS: Monday - Wednesday 0800-2000. Thursday-Friday 0800-1700. Sick call begins at 0645.
