How to Calculate Mileage Deduction

    • 1). Add the total number of miles you drove your vehicle for business reasons. Multiply this number by 0.55. The result is your business mileage deduction.

    • 2). Add the total number of miles you drove your car for medical or moving purposes. Multiply this number by 0.24. The result is your deduction for medical or moving mileage.

    • 3). Add the total number of miles you drove for a charitable organization (such as a church or charity). Multiply this number by 0.14. The result is your charitable mileage deduction.

    • 4). Add the results from steps 1 through 3. This is your total mileage deduction.
