Are There Energy Star Water Heaters?
- Energy Star-rated water heaters include high-efficiency gas, whole-home gas tankless, gas condensing, electric heat pump and solar models.
- A high-efficiency gas water heater's yearly energy savings is approximately $30 per year (February 2010); a whole-home gas tankless model's yearly energy savings is approximately $100 per year; a gas condensing model's yearly energy savings are approximately $100 per year; and an electric heat pump's yearly energy savings is approximately $300 per year.
Solar water heaters are designed to work with other Energy Star or non-Energy Star water heaters. The heaters can cut your annual energy costs in half. - Energy Star water heaters are available from hardware, home-improvement and retail superstores. The water heaters are also available directly from water heater manufacturers and from online outlets
- Rebates and tax credits aimed at encouraging the purchase of energy-efficient products are available at times on some products. If you are purchasing an Energy Star water heater, ask the seller whether rebates are available on the purchase. A rebate returns a portion of the water heater's selling price directly to you in the form of a check or a reduction in the price of the equipment. One or more rebates may be available. As with other rebate programs, there will be eligibility rules and a specified deadline for applying for the rebate.
