One Page In History
Being a child of the 60's was not all that bad.
We demonstrated over an unpopular war, we hugged everyone and gave them flowers, and we cried when John Kennedy died and Little John saluted his dad.
Whether you lived in Madison, Chicago, or any other city, you made your voice heard.
Sometimes banners carried feelings down a main street, and loud- speakers voiced opinions and beliefs.
No matter how you look at the 60's, and whether you thought it was great or everyone was this side of lunacy, one thing is for sure.
You truly have to admit that people were alive, with emotions and depth.
Causes were brought into frontline and love and war were on opposite sides.
From the older generation to the babies carried on the backs of demonstrating mothers and fathers, we were vibrant and we wanted everyone to know it.
This could be good or bad, depending on individual preferences.
In a way, we honored our forebearers and wanted to keep liberty in place and war was a disgusting decision that would not be tolerated.
No matter what the day brings, nobody today wants to truly take a stand.
The voices of the grassroots and the baby boomers are quiet and reserved.
Even though there are more atrocities today than in the days of the 60's, nobody feels safe or confident enough to take a stand and let others know it.
Any history book will show the hippie/yippie era as one whose time had come and it was known like the shot heard 'round the world.
However, when it comes to this day and age, well yawns and nodding heads are not a very good page in any book, let alone a historical one.
We live in a time of immense lies, pre-memoed news reports, and wars that are based on greed and kingship potentials.
Corporations are raking the poor, elderly, families, and children over the coals with their profits, while the base of humanity - home, food, water, and air - well, let's face it - it is going the way of truth, liberty and the American way.
The chapter heading will probably read "Why Did America Sleep?" when it could say "America Took Back It's Greatness.
" Which one would you like your grandchildren and great-grands to read?If they should ask you what you did - truth be known - you could proudly say that you looked and listened and felt really bad inside.
No one is suggesting armed assaults on the White House but the disgrace, dishonesty, disregard for the Constitution, well the list goes on - suggests action with a capital "A.
"Impeach- ment is tossed around and censures, well, this word creeps up once in a while.
Truthfully, if the Almighty has the patience to let us choose and decide, then what are we waiting for? Does the fate of the future have to hit us on the head and drag us away kicking and screaming? Well, when this administration pounds us down with a life usually called a dictatorship - then what do we tell the children? We waited a wee bit too long even though the signs were written in the sands and in the heavens?Yeah, give me the loud voices of the 60's that are still reverberating throughout history because if I have to live under this type of tyranny in the Land of the Free - at least I will have my say.
Now if only I could find my love beads and flower wreaths.
Something to think about.
