How to Create an Alien Mascot
- 1). Choose the mascot image that you want for the alien. Create a committee of 10 or more people to propose several different designs for the alien. Have the student population -- or other individuals in the organization -- vote on the suggested images.
- 2). Consult with a design team to determine the feasibility of adopting the mascot. It is important to discuss the cost of adopting the alien mascot. Consider the expense to produce the image on posters, clothing and other paraphernalia. Research the mascot to determine if copyright issues are connected with the chosen image.
- 3). Discuss the legal implications of choosing a new mascot with a qualified legal professional. Trademark the image if necessary; this will prevent other institutions from using your alien image.
- 4). Have the committee decide what colors to use with the alien mascot. Two or three colors should be chosen that coordinate with the alien image.
- 5). Seek approval for the mascot from the president, chancellor, board or other heads of the organization. The mascot much be officially approved before the adoption process can begin.
- 6). Produce several different items printed with the image of the new mascot. Have a costume developed that looks like the alien. Have someone wear the mascot around the campus or organization several days before the official unveiling.
- 7). Host a mascot unveiling-party where you reveal the mascot to the world. Publish a press release and invite important individuals within your organization. Invite the press to the event.
- 8). Switch all mascot-related costumes, pictures, uniforms and posters to the new alien mascot. It may take some time to complete the transformation and gain public acceptance.
