The 1990 Toyota Camry was based upon the V-20 platform, second-generation Camry platform. This Camry model offered buyers a choice of inline, four-cylinder or V-6 engine. The V-6 engined Camry of this vintage was also sold as a Lexus, ES 250, albeit the Lexus provided more luxury appointments within it's cabin. Some Camry models from this generation for the North American market were built in Japan, while some were manufactured stateside in Toyota's Kentucky production facility. - Toyota offered the Camry sedan with a 2.0-liter, inline four-cylinder engine on the Base, DLX and LE trim levels. Output for this powerplant is rated at 159 hp at 5,800 rpm and 159 foot-pounds of torque at 4,600 rpm.
- The Camry in Base, DLX and DLX V6 trim levels of this vintage were equipped with five-speed manual transmission as standard equipment with the option to upgrade to a four-speed automatic with overdrive. The LE and LE V6 trim levels were equipped with the four-speed automatic gearbox as standard equipment.
