How to Fish in Mexico Beach, Florida

    • 1). Decide whether you prefer fishing on your own or chartering a boat. As of 2010, there are 12 companies in Mexico Beach offering fishing charters. These companies will take you out and provide advice and equipment. For those wishing to be more independent, the Mexico Beach Fishing Pier is an ideal spot from which to fish. Beach fishing is also possible in spots.

Each charter company offers its own advantages. FloriDaze Adventures is good for those seeking a sportfishing experience. Charisma Charters offers trips to sunken ships and reefs for tackle fishing. For those wanting to fish for sharks, go with Big Time Charter. Deep Shok II charter company offers the shortest trip option, at three hours. Charisma Charters offers trips as long as two days.

    • 2). Figure out your budget. Charter fishing in Mexico Beach can cost anywhere from $325 for a four-hour trip with Tom Cat Charter to $1,300 for a 10-hour trip with Deep Shok II, as of 2010. Those on a limited budget should stick to shore fishing, which only costs $17 for a three-day pass for an out-of-state resident as of 2010.

    • 3). Purchase a Florida fishing license if fishing from land. A license is required for all anglers 16 and older. These can be purchased from Marquardt's Marina and at several other locations in Mexico Beach. Charter companies take care of the needed permits for you.

    • 4). Make a reservation, if opting to fish with a charter company. Most companies require a deposit at the time of reservation.

    • 5). Prepare your supplies. Be sure to bring sunscreen. Check with your charter company to see if they provide food and drink. If not, be sure to pack enough to last you through your trip.

    • 6). Arrive at your pre-arranged time and place for your charter boat. Fishing from land will allow you more flexibility.
