Slate Tile Flooring - Ideas
Looking to do your current house in a green manner? Slate tile flooring may just be the answer you have been looking for. A total "earth" created substance, there is nothing artificial or "phony" about slate tile. It is ail totally Mother Nature created material. It comes in a wide variety of colors and stone types, but can, and will, fit any room you choose to place it in.
Made of quartz, chlorite, mica & calcite, slate is one of the most durable and hard wearing products on the market today which is why slate tile is so popular. Please remember that when installing slate, unlike where it may have come from, it must have a solid and secure substrate or subfloor to be set in or on. Inclines or flat is up to the individual, but it must have a solid foundation to be put on, or it will crack and have problems.
This can be mounted on plywood sub-floor, and then installed, but as wood, even plywood, does tend to warp or crack, this is not the most desirable mounting. The solid mounting also allows it to be extremely resistant to damage both from indoor and outdoor elements.
Though it demands a bit more maintenance than other flooring like porcelain or ceramic tiles, many still opt to use slate tiles because of their one of a kind and artistic appeal. There are two main types of slate which are Indian slate and Chinese slate. Because it is not a man-made product each tile does have slight variations in depth, width, and height. There can be up to a 1/4 inch variation in height and there are only a few millimeter differences between width and depth of each tile.
Whatever type of slate tile flooring you choose, or who you have put it in for you, just remembers that you are installing a "green floor" that can, and should, last you a lifetime!
