- 1). Unplug the dryer from the wall so that it does not start while you are working on it.
- 2). Remove the lower front plate of your dryer -- if it has one -- by unscrewing the plate or unclipping it.
- 3). Reach into the dryer and pull on the belt surrounding the drum to see if it is loose or broken. A broken belt will come off, or you will feel a break in the belt as you turn the drum. The belt should be taut and have only a small amount of give.
- 4). Turn the idler pulley wheel that the belt surrounds to see if it moves freely. Replace it is if it cracked, wobbles or wiggles.
- 5). Remove a broken belt from the dryer by pulling back on the idler pulley toward the motor to relieve tension on the belt. Note the alignment of the belt before pulling it off. Place a new belt in the same configuration as the old belt.
