How to Remove a Camper Shell

    • 1). Remove the fasteners connecting the camper shell to the rails of the truck box. These may be clamps for shells installed in a temporary manner or bolts for more permanent installations.

    • 2). Disconnect the electrical wiring, if present, between the shell and the truck. This may be a wire run off the taillights of the truck to operate the dome light of the shell or a wire from the front of the box to operate more complex electrical components in the shell.

    • 3). Ease the shell off the pickup box. Many camper shells are installed with a foam gasket or seal between the shell and the rails of the box. This gasket limits the amount of dust that enters the shell. It may have adhered to the shell, making breaking the shell free difficult.

    • 4). Lift the shell of the pickup. This requires at least two people. Walk the camper shell to the back of the truck, removing the camper shell.
