Things to Put on Your Resume as a Marketing Rep

    Marketing Representative Position

    • A marketing representative is a professional who focuses mostly on the promotional aspect of marketing. A representative commonly focuses on providing marketing services to a specific region of the country. Common duties include providing retail stores with promotional materials, implementing new marketing strategies to reach buyers, managing the company’s publicity and monitoring the supply of products. In many cases, a marketing representative has the same role as a sales representative, spreading the word of a product or service to potential buyers.

    Marketing Education

    • In many cases, an employer wants to see that you have a degree, preferably in general business management or marketing, on the resume to consider you for the position. Although some employers offer in-house training for marketing reps, they prefer an applicant who at least has basic knowledge of business promotions. If you’re a recent graduate with a marketing degree and have a very high GPA in your marketing classes, mention that on the resume as well.

    Marketing Experience

    • Besides a formal education, one of the most important details to include on your resume is your experience in the capacity of a marketing representative. That includes working in a sales job, event promotions contractor, merchandising employee or a similar role. A past position in a similar marketing position, such as a specialist or coordinator, also improves your chance of getting hired as a representative.

    Marketing Certifications

    • If you have any certifications from reputable marketing organizations, include that information on your resume as well. For instance, the American Marketing Association offers a professional certified marketer certificate program that verifies your expertise in the field. Include a mention of your membership in other well-respected professional business organizations, including fraternities and sponsors of marketing conventions.
