The Saskatchewan Highway Traffic Act

    Function

    • The act is extensive with regard to various regulations on highway traffic. Included among these regulations were laws on reporting accidents, rules for changing lanes, different regulations for different types of vehicles and the right of the government to seize and impound immobilized vehicles.

    Oversight

    • The act also created the Highway Traffic Board, which was charged with overseeing the various aspects of the act. The Board consisted of a minimum of five members, all of whom were appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council.

    History

    • The act was originally passed in 1986, but it was entirely repealed by the Statutes of Saskatchewan Act of 2004, which became effective in 2006.
