Appearance of acne scars can make you self-conscious and worried about the look of your face.
While most usually disappear with time, some can be permanent and treatment options may not help remove the scars.
Acne scars take different forms and can be macules, tissue scars, skin discoloration and loss of tissue.
The most common are macules which manifest as lesions and flat red spot where the acne was once located.
Skin discoloration happens all the time and is referred to as post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation which eventually disappears even if it will take months.
The treatment options to remove acne scars include:

• Chemical peels - Chemical peel as a method to remove acne scars uses chemicals which are essentially made from acids to remove the outer layers of the skin.
  Peeling may continue afterwards depending on the strength of the acid used.
  The effect of the chemical used is to destroy the cell that are scarred improving the appearance of the skin around the scars and the post inflammatory hyper pigmentation that occur on the cells that had acne or the lesion around it.
  Though the resultant skin may be even and smooth, this method of scar removal may have disastrous side effects on certain skin types.
  
• Dermabrasion - This treatment method to remove acne scars will require weeks and several days for healing process.
  The skin is resurfaced using high-speed instrument or brushes which essentially reduce the depth of the scars.
  Dermabrasion as a treatment method to remove scars is very effective and is preferred by most doctors and patients alike.
  
• Micro-dermabrasion - This is a modification of dermabrasion and preferred for removal of acne scars in patients who in one way or another will take abnormally longer period to heal.
  A pray of super fine crystal are employed instead of the more intensive high speed brushes.
  No downtimes are involved as the process can be repeated several times.
  It is still as effective as the general dermabrasion method though.
  
• Fillers - Fillers are technically not a treatment method to remove acne scars.
  When the appearance of scars leads to depressed appearance of the skin, hyaluronic acid, fat, collagen or other fillers are used to fill the depressed gaps on the skin.
  The skin will absorb the substances and depending on the intensity with which acne affected your skin, the filler injections are repeated monthly or after given number of weeks.
  
• Lasers - The use of lasers to remove acne scars is one of the latest, fastest and most efficient methods but which still has fears.
  Depending on whether the acne scars are flat or raised different kinds of lasers may be used, laser surgery takes long time to heal just like dermabrasion treatment method to remove scars.
  Lasers can lighten up the skin, flatten and smoothen the areas of the skin that are contoured, remove the dead outer layer of the skin and kill the cells that are prone to acne on the areas of the skin with lesions.
