    Definition

    • The medicine ball rebounder is sometimes called a medicine ball trampoline. A medicine ball rebounder typically has a 28-inch diameter for the rebounding area and is built with a steel frame and neoprene grips. The rebounding area can be as wide as 40 inches. This equipment allows for multipurpose exercise and can be purchased from local fitness, recreation and sports equipment stores or over the Internet.

    Medicine Ball

    • A medicine ball is a small weighted ball used for strength training and rehabilitation exercises. A medicine ball can weigh 2 to 25 lbs. with a diameter of approximately 14 inches. It is used widely in plyometric training and sports conditioning.

    Function

    • Combined with a medicine ball, a rebounder is a versatile tool for exercise. It functions to rebound the ball back to the athlete for ball-throwing exercises when a workout partner isn't available. The rebounding area generates a bounce to return the ball to the thrower. Most rebounders are adjustable, so you can exercise different muscles by working various angles.

    Uses

    • The medicine ball rebounder can be set in a flat or angled position. It can be used as a jogger for stability and balance exercises. As a jogger, the rebounder is adjusted flat and parallel to the ground while the user alternately lifts each foot off the rebounder for an uphill jog workout. Most trainers use the medicine ball rebounder for plyometric training. Other uses include upper body workouts and lower body flexibility routines.

    Exercises

    • The ball toss and chest press exercises are effective medicine ball and rebounder workouts. To do the ball toss, set the rebounder on an angle and sit on the ground with your legs crossed facing it. Keep your back straight for balance. Raise the ball up above your head and toss it against the rebounder. Catch the ball on rebound.

To do the chest press exercise, stand with your feet shoulder-width apart while holding the medicine ball at chest level with both hands. Toss the ball to the center of the rebounder and catch it on first bounce. Keep your arms extended when catching the ball before returning to the starting position.
