Definition:
The kylix is a footed, two-handled, Greek drinking vessel. It was one of four common forms of Greek cups: skyphos, kotyle, kylix, and kantharos. The interior was often painted, as in this example, even though the scene so depicted would be hidden until the diner drank the wine that it would have held.

480 B.C. terracotta red figure kylix signed by the painter Hieron, with a symposium scene on the outside, indicative of the normal environment in which the kylix was used.
