Starting Problems in the 1993 Katana 750

    Wiring

    • Constant use of the 1993 Katana 750 puts bike components under frequent wear and tear. Some owners noticed starting problems were alleviated when the wiring harness was replaced. Mechanics state Suzuki's main fuse holder is notorious for overheating and melting down. Melting plastic does not damage the starting system, but intense heat causes terminal damage that prevents proper signal transmission. Replacement fuse boxes for the Katana are readily available and connected using wiring specific to Suzuki models. Improper wiring not only causes potential starting problems but also can cause operator harm.

    Carburetors

    • Operators experience starting problems when 1993 Katana 750 bikes sit undisturbed for extended periods of time. Fuel goes bad when it is not drained from the bike or treated for long-term storage. In warmer climates, fuel evaporates and varnishes the carburetors. The proper mixture of gasoline and air needed for optimal engine function does not occur. Replacing the carburetors should solve the issue if carburetor cleaner does not alleviate the problem.

    Oil

    • Some 1993 Katana 750 owners experience starting problems after receiving an oil pressure warning light or low oil pressure reading. Constant riding loosens engine seals that eventually cause oil loss. Oil also leaks through engine block cracks causing a drop in oil pressure. The engine smokes when the bike is started and overheats during idling. The excessive heat causes engine damage that leads to total engine failure. Replacing the oil pump does not alleviate the situation. The engine must be overhauled and all cracks repaired for a permanent solution.
