How to Make a Clue Hunt
- 1). Determine the route you want the players to follow until they reach the treasure. Write it down on a notepad, leaving some rows of space between areas.
- 2). Write the clue next to each location or space listed on your notepad. Depending on the player's level, you can either say directly what they have to do -- "Go to the living room and search under the television" -- or mention a riddle, such as "Through it you can see the world, but under it, you can see the clue."
- 3). Cut out as many 3---3-inch pieces of paper as your locations. Copy the clues from the notebook to the sheets. Use clear handwriting, so that everyone can understand what you have written.
- 4). Place each piece of paper at its corresponding position. Ensure a paper is not easy to spot when players don't know where they should focus. For example, if your clue is supposed to be on the desk, put it under a book, so that an unsuspecting "hunter" entering the room won't be able find it.
- 5). Hand every individual or team participating in the game the initial clue. Also give them a map of the area the game takes place -- a house, a garden or even a neighborhood -- to place a mark on the position of each clue they find. This way, you ensure the winner has followed the complete route and did not just find the treasure by chance.
