How to Decorate a Table With a Theme of Shoes & Purses

    • 1). Create a centerpiece on the table using an old high heel shoe. Hot-glue glitter, feathers and rhinestones to the shoe and place it on a riser in the middle of the table. Hide the base with color-coordinated flowers or feathers.

    • 2). Fill tiny coin purses with sand to weigh them down, then use the two-piece upper “kiss” clasp to hold a shoe-emblazoned place card. Use spray adhesive and glitter to dress up plain coin purses.

    • 3). Customize solid color placemats that coordinate with your table colors. Sew on some purse or shoe novelty buttons or cut shoe and purse silhouettes out of colored felt and glue them along the edge of the mat. Even with a plate on it, the theme-related trim will show.

    • 4). Find color images of notable footwear and unique purses, such as the ruby slippers from “Wizard of Oz” and a purse that looks like a diamond encrusted cupcake. Enlarge them if necessary and print images so they're approximately 4 or 5 inches wide. Apply the pictures to foam core board and cut them out. Use shish kabob sticks to place them in food dishes and flower arrangements.

    • 5). Hand-paint drinking glasses with a shoe or purse image. Use food safe dish and glass paint and alternate shoe and purse glasses on the table.

    • 6). Use an etching compound and a purse or shoe stencil to customize plain glass votive candleholders. Space them along the table and light the candles.
