What do bed bugs look like? That is one of the first questions that many people ask when they are dealing with the initial stages of an infestation.
If you are in this position, you are probably wondering what they look like.
It can be hard to describe exactly how they look without photos, but I will do the best I can! They actually come in various sizes.
They are small compared to most bugs, but they can make your life miserable! The easiest place to find them in your bedroom is right in your bed.
As a pest control inspector, the first place I look for them on a call is in the bed.
I walk straight to the room of the infestation, and I begin taking sheets off the bed.
I take them off one by one until I find them.
If I don't find them after taking off all the sheets, I will them lift up the mattress and look at the back side of the mattress.
This is the most common area on the bed to find them.
Look for them on the back side of the mattress as they like to hide in dark places.
Do the same thing with the box springs if you still can not find them.
The biggest ones are completely oval shaped, flat, and are usually light brown.
They are very flat, and the adults are not much larger than a tick.
Sometimes they will be red after a blood meal.
If you squish a bedbug, a lot of blood will squirt out.
For small bedbugs, they can look like a spec of dirt on the mattress.
If you see this, take something with a point, such as a screwdriver or pen, and poke at it.
It will move if it is a bedbug! This will help you figure out if you have them.
