Women And Weight Gain - Discover How Not To Gain As You Age

Understanding women and weight gain is not an easy task.
There are millions of frustrated women the world over who share the same problem.
And some women just do not want to hear what they have to hear.
But you are not one of them if you are reading this article.
You care enough to research and determine how to make your future brighter and healthier.
Good for you.
Most women do gain weight as they age.
Especially after 40.
Most will blame it on their hormones with peri-menopause or menopause.
And while that is a factor, that is not the case.
At least not by itself.
First, take a moment and look back at your life in your 20's: probably single, lots of sports activities, dancing, playing lots of games with kids, picking them up all day long.
In your thirties, you are still very active with the kids, but not as much dancing or time for yourself.
By the 40's, you are running the kids to the baseball game in your car..
..
rather than playing the game with them.
Huge difference in the daily expenditure of calories.
We then compound our gradual lessening of physical activity with the fact that our bodies lose a half a pound of muscle each year, from the age of 30 on.
Half a pound is not a big deal, right? It certainly is not noticeable.
It is a very slow process that builds up over time.
Like a dripping water faucet.
Eventually it wears off the porcelain in the sink.
But by the age of 40, that is 5 pounds of muscle.
And by the age of 50, it is 10 pounds of muscle.
Why does it matter? Because a pound of muscle will burn 35-50 calories a day for us, while a pound of fat will burn only 2 calories a day.
And that is while we are at rest.
So sitting at that computer all day at the age of 25, your body is still burning 350 to 500 calories every day that your 50-year-old body isn't.
That is huge! Do you want to eat 500 calories less everyday? Not me.
And I don't know of anyone else either.
So is there anything we can we do about it? Yes.
There is.
It is called strength training.
You do not have to go to a gym and put in hours and hours each week.
Just 20 minutes a day, 3 days a week will do it.
It will keep your muscles working hard FOR you, and keep your skin firmer and younger looking.
The key is in the knowing - that you are aware that this is the cause - and taking action.
My preference is to use exercise tapes.
They give me direction and proper form and usually great music.
A quick 20 minutes and I am done.
Plus I feel part of the group.
And the variety is endless.
